Answering the call of Nature

The public toilets are often an adventure. Fortunately, there are enough malls and public spaces to merit public toilets, so I'm never forced to venture "into the woods." At the same time, it's sometimes an adventure. Make sure your stall has toilet paper or that you have tissues or have restocked at the community toilet paper dispenser! I've developed some really strong thigh muscles recently. One lady we met at Taste, a western grocer, said that you know you've been in Asia long enough when it's your own footprints you find on the seat of a western toilet!

Japanese toilets are much nicer. This toilet was the one at the airport. A Canadian friend who spent some time in Japan explained that the music wasn't for your enjoyment but it was for the sake of the others near you. Just press the musical note button upon sitting down. You can also select from the type of cleansing services you'd like. I had to study the buttons a little bit before I made my selection to flush in order to avoid getting doused before my next flight.
